Summer: Al Fresco Dining

Dining alfresco can be a wonderfully laid-back affair. During the warm summer months, I like to take advantage of the great weather and head outdoors.

On a recent trip to Newport I managed to persuade my hubby to have a picnic on the beach. The setting was perfect – sunshine, a view of the ocean and rocky peninsula and a gentle breeze. Lunch was served in a bamboo box (ok, I did not pack our own picnic, it was waiter service on the beach) which created a hard surface to eat off whilst

May: Taking It Easy

Happy Memorial Day!

This weekend I have been taking it easy. A little gardening; cookout with friends; playing cards with Mia; at home date night with Chris; relaxing and reading.

Me and Mia made some delicious granola filled with a variety of nuts, seeds coconut chips and for binding coconut oil and maple syrup. Instead of reaching for a carb heavy, sugar filled blueberry muffin this morning I enjoyed granola topped with Greek yogurt and raspberries.

A lovely and fun long weekend is over, the

April: Out & About - Naples

During April vacation week I went to Naples (Florida) and had a fabulous time with my family on the beach, at the pool and dining out on 5th Ave and 3rd street.

Packing for Naples is not the same as packing for a European trip and I had to really think through what to bring. My wardrobe is full of neutral colors and classic styling. BUT, I do have a few hidden gems that I pull out when needed! I went for bright colors and a relaxed beachy vibe with

Spring Feeling

With snow and rain forecast for the next couple of days I am feeling the urge to inject a little spring feeling into my life. I have potted some daffodils into a terracotta pot and placed outside my front door to create a splash of color.

A trip to the Museum of Fine Arts always puts me in a good mood. After perusing the galleries, I head to the glass enclosed courtyard, flooded with light, making the Lime Green Icicle Tower, by the artist, Dale Chihuly, shimmer from all angles.

The Love of Strawberries

Once a year it is lovely to have a day where you get reminded to do a little extra for the one you love.

Over the past week our household has been recovering from colds, digging out from the snow and busy workdays. Needless to say, Valentine’s Day was not a super romantic occasion this year so we plan to enjoy this evening at home with dinner followed by a movie.

I am keeping dessert simple. Strawberries with a hint of balsamic vinegar, basil and whipped cream – maybe a

Hallway Mini-Makeover

I am in the process of giving our hallway a mini makeover. An easy area to tackle first has been a small nook behind the front door upon entry. We installed a couple of hooks that act as a decorative way to store guest jackets, hats and scarves.

Below the hooks, I have placed a rustic milking bench that I purchased in Newburyport, it has been living in my basement for years and it’s finally getting the attention that it deserves. During the winter months, I am finding it to

Pre-dinner prep

We are having family friends over for dinner this weekend and I like to do as much prep ahead of time as possible so that I can spend more time socializing when people arrive.

For pre-dinner drinks I am using to top of my dining room console to serve as a “mini bar”. I’m keeping it simple with G&T’s along with different mixers – simple and refreshing before a heavy meal. The shelf below is being used to store dessert plates and coffee cups so that I have everything on hand at

Home Detox: The Bedroom

The final room for cleaning on our January detox is the bedroom. It is a quick project and if you do it today you get to enjoy the result of your efforts all weekend.

Our bed is layered with linen bed sheets and covers that pool on the floor to give a laid-back luxury feeling. After washing I pop them in the dryer with sachets filled with lavender to enhance sleep. Whilst the sheets are off the bed I push it aside and clean under it – it’s amazing how much dust

Home Detox: The Family Room

My family room is hard at work on a daily basis; we use it for reading, relaxing and vegging out to watch TV. Our shelving units had become rather unruly so after a good clean this week I set about styling.

One side of our shelving unit houses the ubiquitous TV that is surrounded by interior design books, home magazines and various objects and pictures picked up on our travels. The bottom shelves are used to store games that we often use on a Friday evening for game night whilst devouring pizza.

Home Detox: Kitchen Part 2

My kitchen cabinets are clean, counters polished and the tile is sparkling.

Although emptying out every cabinet, drawer and shelf has been hard labor this week, I am so thrilled with the results.

One of the areas that I have changed around recently is my corner cabinet with shelving. I used to style it with flowers on a weekly basis but it became rather time consuming, and expensive.

Instead, I now display bottles filled with treasures that I have collected from our
